Mobilizing for the Quantum Century Ahead
Statement from the ICQIA on World Quantum Day 2025
On World Quantum Day 2025, during the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ), the International Council of Quantum Industry Associations (ICQIA) joins together to mark this historic milestone with a shared message: the quantum future is global, and the time to shape it is now.
The IYQ, proclaimed by the United Nations, celebrates a century of discoveries and progress in quantum science and recognizes that quantum technologies—long a frontier of exploration and discovery—are transitioning at an accelerating pace into engines of innovation, industry, and societal impact.
Across academia, research labs, startups, small and mid-size companies, global enterprises, and governments, momentum is building. In this transformative year, we reaffirm our shared commitment to shaping a future where quantum technologies are developed responsibly, deployed effectively, and made accessible across sectors and regions.
The enormous potential of quantum technologies for economic prosperity, national security, and societal advancement has fueled public and private investments worldwide. Innovation, talent, and markets are global, and no single country or company can develop quantum technologies and applications alone.
The ICQIA supports frameworks and policies that promote the ability for industry to collaborate, establish operations, and do business in countries and regions with shared values—while taking appropriate measures to avoid misuse.
Together, ICQIA member associations are helping to build the foundations of a thriving global quantum ecosystem: fostering collaborative innovation among trusted partners, strengthening connections across academia, industry, and government, and working collectively to identify and address critical gaps that stand in the way of scalable impact, commercial viability, and long-term societal benefit.
We recognize that this journey must be a shared one. The complexity—and promise—of quantum demands open dialogue, diverse perspectives, and meaningful partnerships among like-minded entities and nations across geographies, disciplines, and industries.
Let World Quantum Day and the International Year of Quantum be remembered not only as a moment of global recognition, but as the year we moved forward—together—toward a quantum-enabled future.
