Quantum Technology Workforce Monitoring Report – March 17, 2025

Job Postings Decline from January Levels

The quantum technology industry faced a notable downturn in job postings during February 2025, as illustrated in Table 1. The global job count experienced a significant decline of 11.7%, with North America bearing the brunt of this decrease at 15.2%. While seeing a smaller contraction of 1.7%, Europe still contributed to the overall negative trend. The Rest of the World saw the most dramatic drop, with new job postings plummeting by 38.7%. This downturn starkly contrasts with the previous month’s performance. January 2025 showcased a robust recovery, as detailed in Table 2, with global job announcements soaring by 49.5%, led by an astonishing 102.0% increase in the Rest of the World.

In addition to the month-over-month changes, the trailing 12-month count of new jobs provided a sobering perspective in February 2025, as shown in Table 3. Globally, there was a slight decline of 1.5%, with Europe experiencing a more pronounced drop of 2.3%. North America reported a decrease of 1.2%, while the Rest of the World managed a modest increase of 0.8%. These figures reveal a challenging landscape for the quantum technology sector, suggesting that the robust growth observed in January may have been an anomaly rather than a sustained trend. The data underscores the volatility inherent in the industry, pointing to the need for cautious optimism as stakeholders navigate the complexities of this evolving market.
