Mission

Standards & Performance Metrics TAC whose purpose will be to: (i) assess enabling technologies (that are well beyond basic research) and provide a suggested taxonomy of requirements and associated suggested benchmarks for these enabling technologies, and (ii) convey such assessments broadly to the community and U.S. government departments and agencies. Restated, QED-C shall collect and broadly distribute suggested requirements and benchmarks for the purpose of aiding industries to participate in the development of quantum technologies in support of the burgeoning need for QIST. For the avoidance of doubt, QED-C shall not be a standards setting or standards development organization, nor shall QED-C promote or otherwise encourage adoption of voluntary consensus standards or conformity assessment activities for core QIST technologies like qubits, transduction, cryptography or sensing.

Goals

  • Facilitate an industry-centric approach towards the recommendation of standards.
  • Create a member-led and industry-centric forum where technical expertise can be connected to the latest information on standardization and benchmarking, all in the service of scaling the quantum economy.

Projects

  • Workshop and Report on Time Distribution & Protocols - Applications of quantum sensing and networking to improve timing distribution systems.
  • International Standards Engagement - Collaborate with companies and countries in the international standards community to prioritize standards that demonstrate economic impact.
  • Quantum Computing Benchmarks - Review state of the art benchmarking efforts in quantum computing

Subcommittees

Computing

This subcommittee convenes stakeholders across the quantum computing ecosystem to define and advance benchmarks, metrics, and standards that enable consistent evaluation and meaningful comparisons of quantum computing capabilities.

Networking and Sensing

This subcommittee focuses on developing interoperable standards and performance criteria for quantum networking and sensing technologies, supporting their reliable implementation and integration across diverse platforms.
