As the quantum technology job market continues to develop, recent data from March 2025 indicates a notable decline in new job postings on a global scale. The preliminary report (Table 1) reveals a 17.6% decrease in new job postings worldwide, with Europe experiencing a substantial drop of 31.8%. In contrast, North America saw a smaller decline of 4.9%, while the Rest of the World experience a positive growth of 15.2%, albeit from a much smaller base than the other regions.
By comparison, as shown in the February 2025 final report (Table 2), by comparison, the month-to-month trends were less severe, led by a 7.7% decline globally. Europe had a slight uptick of 2.1%, whereas North America faced a 10.0% drop, and the Rest of the World experienced a drastic 37.7% decrease.
Furthermore, when analyzing the trailing 12-month count of new jobs, the preliminary data for March 2025 shows a 3.7% decline globally, with Europe at -5.4%, North America at -2.0%, and the Rest of the World slightly down by -2.5%. This 12-month decline figure underscores the impact and exceptionality of the March data. These statistics highlight the shifting dynamics of the job market and underscore the importance of strategic planning in workforce development and talent acquisition as we navigate these globally changing and challenging economic times.
