Zaira Navario
Organization: IBM

Dr. Zaira Nazario is the theory, algorithms, and applications Technical Lead at IBM Quantum, managing the global R&D portfolio in those areas. She earned her Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics from Stanford University, where she focused on uncovering the physics of strongly correlated systems, quantum phase transitions, superconductivity, and the quantum mechanics of materials in general. After an appointment at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden, Germany, she moved on to work shaping science policy at the U.S. Department of State, where she also launched and managed R&D programs in biological, chemical, and nuclear safety and security. She served as a scientific consultant to DARPA and IARPA, advising on strategic technological investments; and helping formulate, design, and oversee ventures focused on quantum information technologies and advanced navigation, communication, computation and sensing technologies.
